Awesome Weekend

This weekend was so awesome!  My sister had her baby, we went to the zoo, we went to the state fair, Bert and I went on a date, and my brother Tommy comes in town tomorrow!!!!!!!!  My sister had her sweet little girl Matilda Catherine on Friday morning, and she is precious!  Once again my sister always amazes me at how well she handles child birth.  One of the nurses in the hospital even told her she should teach a class on it.  I think thats a pretty great compliment.  When I went to visit sweet Tillie I was so happy, I know my sister will have so much fun with her little girl. Just a little more hair on Tillie and we can put a cute little bow in her hair.  I would officialy like to congratulate Mitchell and Sarah on having their baby girl!  Alex is now two months old and getting so big.  He is my sweet little man.  His two month checkup is not until September 2nd, so I will update then with all the stats.

After visiting miss Matilda we went to the zoo to make sure we get the most out of our zoo pass.  It was the best visit by far.  The lions were out roaring, we practically had the zoo to ourselves, and Scotty the baby elephant was walking around the zoo doing tricks.

On Saturday we all slept in until 10:00!  It was wonderful.  We went to the state fair and the weather was gorgeous.  I can't say I am a state fair lover myself, but Ava and Bert enjoyed it and that makes me happy.  I have a hard time breathing in the horrible smells of the farm animals, needless to say I am not an animal lover even though I have a dog and I could never ever be a farmer.  The food sort of makes me sick too, the person who handed me my chicken pita didn't have teeth and had yellow eyeballs.  I know this sounds mean and maybe a tad snobbish, but I just get grossed out really easily.  Ava won some prizes with the help of Mom and Dad, and she enjoyed the animals very much. Alex and Ava crashed while Bert and I ate, and then we decided it was time to go home.

Saturday night Bert and I went on a dinner date to J.Alexanders.  It was very nice to go and just relax and eat our dinner.  No walking up and down the aisles to calm down a baby, no entertaining anybody constantly throughout the whole meal.  It was a very nice break.

The weekend fun is not over yet!  My brother Tommy's flight arrives tomorrow morning!

Family Zoo Day

Today we went to the zoo.  Yes, it was the hottest day of the year, but honestly it was not that bad.  We went early and stayed pretty late. We saw all the animals, went to the splash park, ate lunch that I packed because zoo food is disgusting, and saw the indoor animals.  Ava crashed as soon as we left the parking lot, and continued to sleep when we got home for 2 1/2 hours.  Alex did not want to ride very long in the stroller, he prefers our shoulders or the baby bjorn.  Alex is now 7 weeks old and so big.  I can't wait to see how much he weighs at his 2 month checkup.  He is really starting to come alive with his cooing and smiles.  He got his first bottle of formulal the other day and did great with it.  I am still nursing him and plan on nursing him until he is six months old.  I gave him the formulal because Bert and I would like to go to a wedding in September kid free, and I need to get him used to a bottle before then.  He is a really laid back baby, but can throw a crying fit for sure when he is not happy!  Today was a great day with the whole family.

I am truely blessed and thankful for my little family.

A little Science

Today on a whim we decided to go visit the Lousiville Science museum.  We were downtown at Bert's office to quickly pick up a laser tape measure and decided we would go since he works right across the street!  The experience was incredible!  This was Ava's first visit and Alex's first too of course.  The kid zone was so much fun.  Ava enjoyed playing kitchen, sliding, pouring water, and seeing all of the other exhibits especially the big polar bears!  Because we decided to go on a whim we didn't have the stroller with us which made it a little difficult, but it all worked out really well.  Bert and I had a great time playing with Ava.  I love to watch her learn and interact with other children, I just love to watch her period. Alex was wide awake the entire two hours we were there and didn't make a peep the whole time.  We stayed for 2 hours but could have stayed longer for sure.  We left to go eat a delicious dinner of fried chicken at Bert's parents house.  Unfortunately the good behavior did not continue at their house because we missed nap time.  Overall, it was a great day!  I had fun with my family.

1 month old and more...

Alex is now one month old and doing well. He had his well checkup today and weighs in at 9lb 8oz, almost what Ava weighed at birth.  He still seems so tiny to me.  I think with baby number 3 I will keep him or her in the full 40 weeks.  When you are able to schedule your birth, my doctor allows me to go at 38 weeks and of course I did.  He is very healthy with a few sniffles.  The doctor said the sniffles were fine and to give him saline drops if I wanted to,but that mainly they were from the air being dry.  He apparently shrank.  They measured him at 20 inches then  said well maybe 21 inches and he was 21 inches at birth.  He is in the 50 th percentile for height and 70th percentile for weight.  Alex tracks objects very well and responds to voices especially my voice!!  He continues to be a very sweet little boy.  He is content to be by himself in his crib or on my bed looking at his toys for long periods of time, but he also likes to be loved and cuddled.  He continues to have a healthy appetite!  As far as sleeping goes he is a pretty good sleeper.  On good nights he sleeps 11-4 or 5, and not so good nights he will wake up at 2.  When he wakes up at 2 it seems like he will continue to get up every hour.  I really can't complain overall he is amazing, and a calm baby.

Ava's speech lesson last week was incredible.  I think she got on the computer, read my blog, and wanted to prove me wrong.  She listened to the therapist the entire hour, and even sat in her lap and wanted to hug all over her.  I guess Ava just needed a few weeks to get used to her.  Ava has been trying to talk alot lately.  Her new thng to say is GO GO GO, and then she takes off running, or climbing on whatever.

I am a mess.  I am losing everything and can't seem to get anything right.  The past couple of  days I have left the diaper bag at home everytime I go somewhere even after I spend 15 mins packing it up and sitting it by the door.  In fact I forgot it today when I went to Alex's docotor's appointment.  I dropped Ava off at my Mom's house and left the diaper bag sitting by the door.  Of course they asked for my insurance card and I had to explain to the receptionist why I didn't have it and I got "the look."  When we went back into the room for his checkup I had to undress him dipaer and all.  He went the bathroom so I had to ask for a diaper and wipes and got "the look" again.  I came back to the docotor's office to give them the insurance card because we got a new plan (long story.)  The receptionist asked me if this was effective as of July 15th and I said "no it would be more like June 15th."  I thought it was June and God knows when I thought Alex was born.  She thought I was on drugs for sure. Some other things that have been happened are Alex's gas drops disappeared the other night.  Completely disappeared!  Bert and I turned over couches and trash cans, we didn't find them.  I hate when stuff like this happens I feel like I am losing my mind.  Maybe I am a little sleep deprived and don't know it!!!!!!!!

20 months

Little miss Ava is 20 months old.  She is not talking up a storm but she definitely has made some progress.  Right now Ava says "no "alot, but she says it in a cute way so it's not so horrible.  She also says ball and a few other short words.  She makes all kinds of animal sounds when asked such as a lion, cow, dog, owl, monkey, rooster, and cat.  She is also getting better at saying up and down when she wants to do either.  Her speech therapy is sometimes painful for me.  The speech therapist still comments on how short her attention span is.  I don't think having speech at our house while very convenient is a good idea.  Ava is free to roam our house and play as she pleases, so when the therapist comes and she has to stay in the family room for an hour I think she is confused.  I can read about 3 books to ava before she wants to get down and do something else, as well as play with her, paint, bake, ect. for about 10 mins.  Ava will also watch an hour long movie without getting up.  I honestly think Ava doesn't like her speech therapist.  I am going to keep sticking with it unless it really gets out of control and Ava starts crying or something when she comes, then I will look for someone else.

Ava's interest besides playing "mommy" are puzzles, books, baking, putting on my makeup, trying everyone's shoes on, riding in her stroller, and playing at the park!

Ava has become an excellent big sister, ALWAYS wanting to kiss and hold her little brother.  When he gets up from his nap and cries Ava goes running to find him.  She has been putting her baby doll in his car seat and swing and practices being a mommy, she is so sweet.  Ava has also been an angel recently.  I think she is really starting to grow up.  She amazes me everyday in how big she is getting.  Ava continues to eat very well.  Her new favorite food is salad!

I love my little Ava so much I can't wait until she starts talking more.  Sometimes it's hard to believe she will be two this November.  I remember when we brought her home from the hospital like it was yesterday.   I couldn't believe how fast she grew into her 12 month outfits, how fast she started crawling then walking, and now running and climbing everywhere.  I think I will faint when she goes to preschool next year and just die when she goes to Kindergarten.  Oh my god I am tearing up just thinking about her in a uniform.

July 4th

Enjoying some fireworks at Grammy and Grandaddys
Ava was crazy as usual
Leigh Anne looked beautiful! Congrats Derrick and Leigh Anne
Fourth of July at Bert's parents house
Yummy cake from Plehn's and yes we actually sang happy birthday to America.

This is going to be short I don't have a lot of time, Alex is hungry yet again.  I'll just say I have been a little tired and stressed this weekend.  We went to Bert's brother's wedding and it was absolutely beautiful.  Sadly, I had to leave early because my kids were nuts and I was exhausted by the time we got to the reception.  I know nursing is the best for Alex but it's just hard sometimes to be constantly needed.  Staying at home is wonderful and what I have always wanted to do.  It is seriously the hardest job I have ever had.  Going back to work would be like going on vacation.  I now believe Oprah when she said "there is no higher calling than to be a stay at home mother,"  Things are going great as far as recovery.  I think I have a wonderful doctor, this is the second time around without me having any problems what so ever.  I plan on working out tomorrw.  I am going to take it slow and work my way up to some intense workouts!  Here are some fourth of July and wedding pics.
